    19. How interested would you be if MLA were to offer a „virtual“ MLA membership? No such membership has been fully defined nor have dues been specified, but for the purposes of this survey, a virtual MLA membership might generally be defined as receiving only those benefits that could be delivered online. For example, you could view the JMLA on PubMed Central but would not receive a print copy; there might be no discount to attend the MLA annual meeting, but you might have a reduced fee to view meeting content on MLANET or receive a CD of the meeting content free of charge.
    20. What kinds of benefits would you find of value for a „virtual“ MLA membership? (free answer)
    22. If you have not attended a meting in the past five years, why have you not attended?
    – My institution will not reimburse me.
    – Too expensive; I can’t afford to attend using my own funds.
    – The meeting does not offer enough relevant programming to justify my attendance.
    – Time of year is bad for me.
    – Chosen locations have not been of interest.
    – Meeting locations have not been close enough for me to attend.
    – I only attend my chapter’s meetings.
    – I attend another national association’s meetings instead.
    – Other reason, please specify.
    24. Considering all the reasons you might attend a physical meeting (e.g., peer networking, location or environment, volunteer responsibilities, continuing education courses, speakers, programming) please indicate your level of agreement with the following statements:

    – I regularly purchase Webcasts, podcasts, or online meeting presentations, or electronic meeting content on CD/DVD, in lieu of attending physical meetings.
    – I have attended an MLA Webcast in the past three years.
    – I think MLA should offer some sort of „virtual“ annual meeting, with selected portions of the onsite meeting available at a lower fee.
    – I would only consider participating in a virtual meeting if it were „live“ and interactive.
    – MLA should make more robust annual meeting content available for purchase after the annual meeting (e.g., as podcasts, videos, audio/powerpoint synchronized presentations)
    – I already purchase the annual meeting CDs–that’s enough for me.
    – I would be interested paying more than I do for the current CDs for more robust meeting content online or on CD/DVD.
    – I am only interested in meeting content that is available at no charge or included with my association membership.
    – I prefer face-to-face annual meetings and programming.
    38. Please indicate which of the following MLANET enhancements might be of interest to you.
    – Allow members to add content to MLANET to share with colleagues
    – An online „encyclopedia“ for the profession and the association via a wiki, à la Wikipedia
    – Subject expertise database of MLA members
    – A personalized „My MLANET“ page where I can see information about my membership, sections, CE credits, and links I visit often.
    – Research and white papers I can use to promote the library or librarians‘ expertise.
    – Recommended websites for specific health areas (for health information professionals, not consumers)
    – More Web-based tutorials available
    39. Which of the following social networking/Web 2.0 tools are you currently using in either your work or personal life?
    – Blogs
    – Wikis
    – Media sharing (e.g., flickr, YouTube)
    – RSS feeds
    – Instant messaging/chat/virtual reference
    – Web-based office tools (e.g., Google documents)
    – Social networking sites or services (e.g., Facebook, MySpace, Second Life)
    – Most if not all of the services above are blocked by my institution.
    40. What is your preferred way to receive information about what is happening in MLA and the profession?
    – MLA-FOCUS
    – MEDLIB-L or other email discussion list
    – RSS feed or blog entry
    – MLANET home page
    – MLA News
    – Section website, email list, blog, or newsletter
    – Chapter website, email list, blog, or newsletter
    – Journal of the Medical Library Association
    42. What are your preferred modes of learning?
    – Classroom instruction
    – Formal distance-learning program
    – Journal club or reading a publication (e.g., MLA independent reading program)
    – Teleconference
    – Web-based course or tutorial
    – Webinar or Webcast
