BioMed Central kehrt zu alter Preisstruktur zurück
15. October 2004 by ob | Kategorien: Open Access
Im Library Journal wurde berichtet: After receiving significant feedback from the academic library community, open access publisher BioMed Central (BMC) announced that it was reversing its decision to alter its institutional membership model for 2005.

One Response to “BioMed Central kehrt zu alter Preisstruktur zurück”

I am currently collaborating with GASCO to renew its institutions BioMed Central Memberships. The pricing model that we have used for all the renewing institutions is per article processing charge. The base price for any institution with this model is EUR1500, the equivalent of three manuscripts published. If an institution has published between zero and three manuscripts, this is the price that we will charge. When an insitution has published four or more articles with us, the price goes up accordingly, for instance, an institution that had published 10 articles with us would pay EUR5,000 which is 10 x EUR500.
This payment will work as credit. We use the number of articles published last year as a guide for the price that we charge but if this institution had published more than 10 manuscripts, we would require payment for the extra manuscripts at the end of the year. Further, if the institution has not published as many manuscripts as they have paid for by the end of the year, they will have the extra payment brought over to the following year.
The EUR500 payment is a flat fee despite Genome Biology, Journal of Biology, BMC Biology and BMC Medicine charging between EUR1000 and EUR1500 per manuscript.
This method of payment works out favourably compared to our previous payment scheme and is a much fairer way of charging and supporting Open Access. If an institution is large but does not publish many articles, they do not need to pay for this.
